Experienced in the Cannabis Industry
Big Sun Photography has been capturing imagery for the Cannabis, CBD and Recreational Marijuana industry since 2012. In fact we had the privilege of capturing the very first legal marijuana retail purchase in Colorado. Since then Big Sun has been an active participant in the growth of the Cannabis industry here in Colorado. We have worked with many of the largest CBD producers developing marketing imagery for websites and trade shows. We have documented the machinery, technology and processes for a number of growers and refiners. And we have been lead photographer at some of the largest industry trade shows and festivals in the state.

On-Location Projects
A great deal of marketing in the cannabis industry requires on-site photography. Equipment can be too large and cumbersome for studios, grow rooms and refining requires imagery of the actual process at the source. Additionally, many cannabis products (ex: marijuana buds and extracts) regardless of size are not legal to ship to a photographer. As such we are happy to bring our services to your location wherever that may be. It is not uncommon for us to spend several days at a location in order to wrap up an entire marketing campaign with a single visit. This lessens the impact of our photoshoot on your business’s productivity.
Studio Projects
Not everything in the cannabis & marijuana industry requires on-site photo shoots. This is particularly true for CBD products that do not carry the same legal hurdles when it comes to shipping. Most of our CBD product clientele simply box up their products and ship them directly to our studio. There we can capture stunning imagery of their products in a controlled environment. This allows us to manipulate lighting and compositions for optimal use in composite photographs and marketing materials. “Product on white” photos have their place, but if you are going to compete in this competitive industry you have to up your game to more eye catching imagery as well.
Trade Shows & Festivals
The industry is growing quickly, especially here in Colorado. With growing demand comes more cannabis industry events like trade shows, conferences and festivals. If you are going to market your business at such events it is important to have quality imagery for your banners, backdrops and products. However, it is equally important to have quality documentation of your presence at the event itself. That means photos of your kiosk and the team. Most importantly, you will want to capture positive interactions between your business and attendees. These are the type of images that promote trust in your brand. Big Sun has you covered.
Your photography campaign is always going to require more than just photos. From editing to creative composites to working with 3rd party talent, you want your chosen photographer to be able to handle all of it and ensure that the project runs smoothly.
Image Editing
Even the most basic product photo requires extensive retouching for a professional look. Regardless of your products quality, once it is shown in high resolution you will see a wealth of imperfections. We meticulously fix these issues so your product looks perfect.
Composite Work
Quality compositing can enhance your photos and save considerable expense. Your product may say “I look best on a mountain top” but your budget says “I don’t think so”. Compositing (the skilled integration of multiple photos into one) can place your product into scenes and locations without the expenses of an on-site photo shoot.
Models
If your project requires the use of a model that can take a lot of effort. It requires a detailed selection process, after which there is scheduling, contracts, waivers and payments. Big Sun can take care of this for you.
3rd Parties
Many commercial projects involve more people than the photographer alone. Often you will need the talents of a photo assistants, a stylist, a makeup artist or other specialty skills. Leave this to us and save yourself a lot of headache.
